Narratives

The thing to remember is that you can change anything about yourself that you want to change. We have the tools to literally rewire your brain. If you tell yourself things like ‘I’m lazy’, ‘I’m not good enough to do…”, “I’m an introvert and don’t like talking to people,” or “I can’t get motivated to do…” those are all things you can change with a little bit of work. The hardest part is getting started. You can literally do anything that any other human can do. You might not be able to fly or shoot lasers from your hands, but if you see someone else doing something- you can do that too.

The first step is to change your narrative. You define yourself by the stories that you tell yourself, and so if you are limited in some way, it’s because you are telling yourself that’s how you are. There are exceptions of course. If you have cerebral palsy, you will not be able to play basketball like Michael Jordan, no matter how hard you try. But neither of you have cerebral palsy, and you are both mentally and physically capable of anything you want to do.

If you want to be a millionaire, figure out the limiting story that you’re telling yourself. I want to be a millionaire, and I have several limiting stories that I tell myself that prevent me from becoming one. One of those stories is “ I’m not good with money”, and I’m not a good businessman, and to be a good businessman you have to screw people over, and I don’t want to do that. None of these things are true. I could become a millionaire if I was willing to change my narratives!
