Vintage Astronaut’s Sonic Explorations Residency

Every Thursday | 7–10 PM | Easy Tiger Beer Garden | 2108 S Broad St, Winston-Salem, NC

Join Vintage Astronaut for an ongoing weekly residency at Easy Tiger Beer Garden, where deep improvisation, genre-defying performance, and sonic exploration take center stage.

Led by John Daniel Ray on bass, synthesizers, and computer effects, the core trio includes Jonathan Greene on drums, and Joseph Dowdy on saxophones, winds, and live effects, with special guest collaborators joining every week. Each session is completely improvised—no rehearsals, no setlists—just a real-time musical dialogue between players and audience.

Every show is recorded live and released on our Bandcamp page, where listeners can subscribe to the full archive for just $5/month—a simple and sustainable way to support this ongoing project.

Supporting local artists is more important than ever. When you show up, donate, or subscribe, you’re helping to keep our creative community alive and thriving.

Sonic Explorations Residency

Help us make this project sustainable

Playing boundary-pushing, improvisational jazz with vintage synths and space-age gadgets isn’t exactly a get-rich-quick scheme (surprising, we know). Your donations help us keep the music alive—covering everything from instrument maintenance to gas money and maybe even the occasional snack during long jam sessions. If you’ve ever tapped your foot, closed your eyes, or drifted off into another galaxy while listening, consider tossing a few bucks our way. Every bit helps us keep exploring the sonic cosmos and bringing these sessions to life—week after week.

do you wear clothes?

Some members of our band do.

Get yourself one of these high quality, ultra-fashionable astronaut design t-shirts to impress all of your friends. The shirts have time-sensitive, entropy reversing fibers woven into the fabric so they stay perfectly clean even in dusty space conditions. In extreme situations, you can fold the astronaut head up and over your mouth to provide up to 45 mins of oxygen and hydro-nutrition particles to yourself (for emergencies only). The design and colors are acceptable in high society gatherings in 14 different cultures. Edible.
